The speaker has a slightly forward sound so it will not mate with some amp's(Yamaha,Onkyo) without EQ settings. Price can be found heavily discounted online at times which makes these a best buy. Not and easy task. These are a great compromise for HT and Music combo.
A sub is needed for HT and recommended for music(just to add body). Not these and they can be felt in the stomach at volume. The 5.5" mids many HT speakers use are better for dynamics in HT but leave a hole in the lower mid's during music play. This speaker is a 2 way that lacks low end rumble by design. However it does sound seemless at either 60 or 80 crossover with a sub. A lot of speakers are priced at this point. 2 channel sound can be done better for $1000 but these are HT speakers that can actually play rock,metal and sound really good.
For many these speakers can give a peek into the world of higher end audio. I been designing and installing high end systems for 20 years. However, with my personal Marantz setup it tames them a little. I have always found the 2 - 6.5"mid/woof and 1" tweet the perfect mate for a sub system.
I also have a Polk sub and all the way around the system sounds great. At first I wasn't overly impressed. Very happy with these speakers. This is my third set of Polk's over the last 20 years. Let them break in, what a difference.
He states that he had the same problem with his RTiA5 speaker (the port tube detaching). I sent an email to Polk tech support. Amazon customer service was good about returning the speakers and they were going to send me replacements. However, note the 3-star review by W. My fears were realized: inside the bottom port of one speaker I could see where a cardboard tube had detached from the port.
Roberts. I told them not to bother at this time; I need time to cool off before deciding where to purchase my speakers. On the back of the other speaker a plastic cone had detached. I knew there was a problem as I was unpacking my speakers; there was rattling coming from inside both boxes. Is this a workmanship or quality asurance problem, or were they both damaged during shipping.
They gave me the standard reply that they inspect every speaker, etc.
I find it's a good match for the Rtia5's to reproduce an accurately voice matched front soundstage.With these speakers, you won't have to worry about damaging them with too much power. I demoed a pair of rtia5's at a local dealer, and they did sound pretty good without a sub, but I'm guessing most people would want to implement a sub sooner or later, especially for Home Theater where a sub is a necessity. Update: It's been 4 months since I purchased these, they are still running strong. I have them paired up with an SVS subwoofer. No complaints yet. I'm also enjoying music with these, they do an outstanding job there as well.I'm using a Polk Csia4 for my center channel.
They are used daily, with a great mix of music and home theater use. I bought a pair of RTIa5's to use as left and right front speakers in my home theater. They offer fantastic highs and mids, with my sub doing all the work down low. The more power the better.
I replaced a 1990 set of Boston Accustic speakers with these and what a differance. Outstanding quality and grate sound. I am very pleased with these speakers. It was nice to get into the digital age.
